3 Shot At Edgewood Shopping Center

EDGEWOOD (KDKA) – Police are investigating a Saturday afternoon shooting in Edgewood and are looking for two suspects.

According to police, the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. when numerous rounds of bullets were fired at a jam-packed Edgewood Towne Center.

Witnesses described hearing shot after shot.

Edgewood Police say it all started at the sneaker villa when a man shopping inside the store made eye contact with a man he knew.

"The shooter from outside the store pulled the gun. The shooter from inside the store recognizes him and pulls his gun. They exchange gunfire," Edgewood Police Chief Robert Payne said.

The bullets shattered the store's glass door. The man inside the store ran outside to the left of the shopping center, while the other man ran to the right. The two were both shooting at each other the whole time with innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.

"I saw shots firing and somebody ran out of the store and I took off the other way and the window busted open. I felt the vibration of the window when it popped," Jose Lebron, a witness said.

The stray bullets hit three people along with car windows and store fronts. One man was critically wounded when a bullet hit his upper-torso. One woman was shot in her buttocks and another man in his leg.

Amber Nelson works along the stretch of stores. She said everyone in the store grabbed the children and hid them in the back. The man shot in his leg was held in her store while he waited for paramedics with his bleeding wound.

"As soon as he [saw] it, he collapsed on the floor. He was still awake, he knew what was going on," Nelson said.

The SWAT team and K-9's were at a nearby neighborhood and picked up a man who police said is not one of the shooters, but was wanted on a warrant for robbery and is believed to be involved with Saturday's triple-shooting.

Allegheny County homicide detectives are now handling the investigation. The two shooting suspects remain on the loose.
