Pittsburgh Firefighter Arrested After Store Robbery

CARRICK (KDKA) -- A City of Pittsburgh firefighter was arrested by police Wednesday night after they say he tried to rob a Uni-Mart store in the 1900-block of Brownsville Road in Carrick.

Firefighter Joseph Caimi, 31, reportedly walked into the store just before 8 p.m., but got into a struggle with the clerk on duty.

The clerk apparently grabbed the gun away from Caimi as he was handing him the loot. The clerk then slammed Caimi's face into the counter before he fled leaving the gun and money behind.

Caimi ran out of the store, leaving the gun behind.

Police discovered that the weapon was registered to him; and they went to his house where he was taken into custody.

"He has no history at all with any other problems, and I just want to know exactly what's going on with him," said Chief Darryl Jones, of the Pittsburgh Fire Department.

Caimi works out of the Deutschtown Fire Station.

He remains in the Allegheny County Jail while the city decides if they're going to fire him or not.
