Mother Charged After Child Nearly Falls From Window

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local mother is facing charges after police say her 1-year-old son nearly fell from a second-story window at their North Side home.

Mary Louise Simpson, 29, is now in jail, and the baby is reportedly in the custody of his grandmother.

Authorities say it was a concerned maintenance man who saw the boy hanging from the window at the home on Kirkbride Street.

He reportedly screamed for someone in the house several times before Simpson came to the window.

When police showed up, they say Simpson's speech was slurred, pupils dilated and she was having a hard time standing.

"She needs help cause she's struggling with her heroin addiction, and the baby just needed help from somebody," said Angela Kenny, Simpson's friend.

Police say they found a needle in the home, and also say she showed them fresh track marks on both her arms.

Simpson is jailed on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and possessing drug paraphernalia.
