Wilkinsburg Shooting Victim Remembered At Vigil

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- Family and friends gathered on Trenton Avenue in Wilkinsburg Friday night near the spot where the body of 28-year-old Monica Proviano was found earlier this week.

Proviano sustained a gunshot wound to the head; and initially, investigators were unable to identify the woman because of head trauma.

Now, as the victim's relatives prepare for her funeral next week, they say they believe she was killed in a robbery even though Allegheny County Police have not released a motive.

Her family says Proviano's car, purse, and even her cell phone was stolen.

The victim's aunt, Carla Polk said, "I really hope this person, I'll call him a monster, comes forward. She didn't deserve this. Who does this to somebody?"

"Monica never hurt anybody; she helped people," Polk added.

Police were called to Trenton Avenue where Proviano lived, early Wednesday morning, responding to a 911 call that shots had been heard in the neighborhood.
