Hazelwood SWAT Situation Ends Peacefully

HAZELWOOD (KDKA) – Two people are in jail following a SWAT situation in Hazelwood Monday night.

According to police, the incident began at a home in the 100-block of Flowers Avenue around 6:50 p.m.

Police out of Zone 4 got the call for men running down the streets with guns. Officers eventually surrounded a home on Flowers Avenue where the men were believed to have gone.

SWAT was called in and after an hour, the two men came out. They have been identified as Carlos and Derrick Stanford.

According to court papers, Derrick Sanford said the house was his sister's and allowed police to search it.

Police found two handguns hidden inside and rounds of ammunition scattered throughout the home, including an empty magazine in a child's shoe.

Police are investigating if there is any connection between the SWAT incident and a shooting Sunday night, where a man was shot in the chest and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing and neither of the two men were charged with anything in connection with the shooting.
