Young Fan Stuns Parents With His Penguins Knowledge

VERONA (KDKA) -- "He skates over and he scores!"

Four-year-old Macin DeFazio is both player and announcer as he scores another goal in his Verona basement. Like any play-by-play man worth his salt, he knows his players.

"29."

"Marc Andre Fleury."

"24."

"Matt Cooke."

Lindsay DeFazio calls off the numbers, and her son responds with the corresponding Penguins player. Lindsay recorded Macin reeling off names to his father, Scott DeFazio.

"One day I said, I'm going to put it on YouTube and see what happened," she says. "It escalated."

The video went viral. But how did this get started in the first place?

"He started with Crosby and Malkin," Macin's mom recalls. "And then, as he watched the games, he would recognize a number and he would ask who they were. And then one day, my husband sat him down and went through all of them, once or twice. He memorized every single one."

KDKA Radio's Bill Rehkopf interviews Macin:

Lindsay says she and her husband were astounded.

"You don't expect it. He was three at the time," she said.

And no, he's not reading. Could you read names like Jussi Jokinen when you were 4-years-old? As for his career path, Macin's mom says her son has one goal in mind.

"He just tells me he wants to play hockey," she says. "He doesn't care what kind - ice hockey, dek hockey, hockey. That's it."
