Local Students Excited To Meet "The Fort"
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Bailey Golvash, 10, was all smiles Tuesday.
That's because she's the winner of a promotion event called "Take The Fort to School."
"The Fort" -- as catcher Michael McKenry is called by fans — stopped by Golvash's school Tuesday at St. Sylvester School.
"It's like really fun," Golvash said. "I've been waiting ever since I heard that I won. And it's been so much fun."
The special day started with lots of pictures -- and Golvash getting her very own Pirates jersey.
After a brief tour, all the children in Golvash's fifth grade class got free Pirates gear and had the opportunity to ask "The Fort" all kinds of questions.
"Yeah, he's very nice-- and everyone asked good questions and he gave very good answers," Golvash said. "He said if you love something you can excel at it. And I think that's very good advice for someone the ages we are."
After the talk it was time for more pictures and to sign some autographs.
"The No. 1 thing I'd want to display to these kids is a Christ-like attitude and hopefully they saw that today in me and know that it's not about me it's about him--- and to have fun," McKenry said. "Being around all them makes me feel like I'm their age again so it's really neat. You guys really mean a lot to me, so I appreciate you having me."
And by the looks of it--- the kids appreciated "The Fort" too.
