Indiana Co. School Bus Accident Injures 1

SOUTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Seven teenagers were injured when a school bus lost control on a dirt road in Indiana County this morning and rolled onto its side.

The accident happened on Hamilton Road about a mile north of McMillian Road in South Mahoning Township around 7:15 a.m.

According to state police, the bus was traveling north on Hamilton Road when the driver lost control while driving near the edge of the roadway and the tires lost traction.

Police say the dirt road had turned muddy because of the recent rain.

The driver, identified by state police as 44-year-old Melinda Weaver of Marion Center, tried to steer the bus out of the mud, but the rear of it began to slide and the front end hit an embankment.

The bus then rolled over onto its passenger side.

Weaver suffered minor injuries in the crash.

One 16-year-old girl suffered moderate injuries. The six other teenagers - an 18-year-old, two 15-year-old girls, a 15-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl – all sustained minor injuries.

All were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
