Man Convicted In Father-In-Law's Death Sentenced

INDIANA, Pa. (KDKA) -- The Indiana County man convicted in the shooting death of his father-in-law was back in court today to be sentenced.

Last month, a jury found 33-year-old Shaun Fairman guilty of second-degree murder.

He was formally sentenced today to life in prison.

Fairman's father-in-law, 55-year-old Richard Shotts was shot and killed last June at his daughter's home in North Mahoning Township.

During the trial, Fairman testified that he was distraught and depressed over his divorce, saying that he went to the house to take his own life in front of his estranged wife.

That's where he was confronted by her father.

Fairman said Shotts fired at him first while trying to keep him out of the house, and that he only fired back at Shotts to get him to stop.
