PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There’s a new boat in town.
There was pomp and ceremony as the newest addition to the Gateway Clipper Fleet sailed down the Mon River toward Station Square. Introducing: the Three Rivers Queen.
The paddlewheel-style passenger vessel sports a new look designed by Michael Martin of KMA Design.
“We wanted to take in the theme of the waves of the water and the river,” Martin says. “So, a flowing kind of theme, with the graphics and the vinyl here, as well as the flags.”
It’s 110 feet long, 32 feet wide and has three decks.
The Three Rivers Queen instantly takes its place as the third largest vessel in the fleet. The new vessel reflects a downsizing of corporate passenger lists.
“This size of vessel, the 300 to 400 passenger vessel, is really where the market – not only for western Pennsylvania, but the rest of the country – is headed,” says Gateway Clipper owner Terry Wirginis. “For dinners of 150 to 200 people or 100 people. You could put a 50 person dinner if you want to.”
