Walk on Wednesday: Gomez And Walker Clearly On Their Games Tuesday

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Pirates color commentator and former pitcher Bob Walk joined The Fan Morning Show today for another edition of his weekly segment, "Walk on Wednesday."

The Pirates beat the Tigers 1-0 in 11 innings last night, and Jeanmar Gomez pitched seven of those shutout innings.

Walk feels Gomez's stuff is getting the job done.

"He's not an overpowering-type guy, but when he has the control he has now, he can definitely pitch," Walk said. "He's changing his speeds, and very seldom does he throw anything down the heart of the plate."

Neil Walker hit a home run in the top of the 11th that stood as the winning run, and Walk said that you can tell when Walker is feeling it.

"When I watch Neil, and he's not right, and he's being a little defensive, you see him just kinda, you know, flick some balls out to left field," Walk said. "He's really looking to stay back… and when he is full of confidence, and getting locked in, you see him turning on fastballs… he's not looking to find a single somewhere, get on base somehow- he's looking to get to himself to at least second base with every swing."

"Walk on Wednesday" can be heard every Wednesday on The Fan Morning Show at 8:40 a.m.

Walk's comments can be heard here:
