Man Arrested After SWAT, Police Called To West Deer Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man is in custody following an overnight incident with police and SWAT in West Deer Township.

Police say 40-year-old James Grace was seeking out his ex-girlfriend.

Grace previously served 12 years in prison for his role in a police-involved shooting in Ohio.

West Deer Police said they went into the situation knowing that they were dealing with a dangerous man.

Police say around 9 p.m. Thursday night, Grace's ex-girlfriend received word that he was heading to her house and intended to harm her.

She had already filed a PFA against Grace, which police say he violated a month ago, beating her up severely.

Grace was eventually found Thursday night in a trailer on a friend's property.

"There was a small trailer in the back of the residence that the actor had access to at one time, but was now prohibited from being there," said West Deer Police Chief Jonathan Lape. "The Allegheny County Bomb Squad was called in to assist and they have a device to tell if there was movement in that trailer – there was movement."

Police believe before going in the trailer, Grace had broken a window and gotten into the ex-girlfriend's house.

However, she had been removed from the home as police anticipated Grace's arrival.

Grace was eventually arrested by police and treated in the hospital for the tear gas that was used to get him out of the trailer.

He is currently in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment.
