Police Investigating Series Of Dormont Burglaries

DORMONT (KDKA) – Police are investigating a series of burglaries in Dormont over the weekend.

According to police, the burglaries happened on Voelkel Avenue, as well as Connecticut and Broadway Streets starting on Saturday night.

Residents were home and asleep during all three incidents.

The burglars entered the homes through unlocked or open windows or by pushing out one-room air conditioners, and stole cash, purses and other small items.

"My dad woke up and came downstairs, and everything was open," said Jackie McCartney, a burglary victim. "The windows were open and all our our drawers were open."

Police are asking residents to be on the lookout for anything suspicious and to make sure their doors and windows are locked.

"Time of year because it's warm out... have more people out - especially later in the night - with windows being open. I think it's more of an opportunist," said Chief Mike Bisignani, of Dormont Police.

Police have also dusted for fingerprints, but no suspects have been identified at this time.
