Farm Worker Injured In Washington Co. ATV Accident

CLAYSVILLE (KDKA) - A 19-year-old man was injured in an ATV accident in Washington County Wednesday morning.

According to officials at the scene, the accident happened on the property of the Mel Blount Youth Home in Claysville.

One of the farm workers on the 300 acres rolled over the ATV he was riding. His name has not been released, but he has been working on the property for about two months.

According to TiAnda Blount, he was feeding cows and the ground gave way under the ATV. As a result, the vehicle landed on top of him.

"He actually slid off into a ravine and had the ATV actually flip on him and they had to pull it off and Lifeflight him," she said. "But he was responsive, he was speaking and talking. He actually called on his cell phone to inform the other farm workers what had happened."

Firefighters said it took an hour to get him out of the ravine.

"Really, really nice young man has been working here and Mel tries to give the young men here in the community an opportunity to work and you know unfortunately it was just an accident that happened," Blount said.

The worker was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

He was checked over, did not suffer any broken bones and was then released.
