Elderly Man, Caretaker Rescued From Hillside

BELLEVUE (KDKA) -- An elderly man and his caretaker are both expected to be okay after they were rescued from a steep hillside in Bellevue.

Firefighters, paramedics and rescue crews were called to the scene in the 4000-block of Ohio River Boulevard near the Bellevue Bridge Friday afternoon.

According to emergency officials, the elderly man's caretaker found him after he wandered away and fell 20-feet over the hillside.

"Somewhere after 1:30 this afternoon, his caretaker came out and she noticed he was gone, and I guess he frequents this area, so she looked over the hillside and he was down there," said City of Pittsburgh EMS District Chief Amera Gilchrist. "She immediately went down to see what she could do, and we were called."

The elderly man suffered some cuts and bruises as well as from possible heat exposure during the ordeal.

The caretaker appeared shaken.

But both are expected to be fine.
