Strengthening North Side Schools
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Chris Moore talked to Terri Lee and Brittany Cheeks of Jehoshabeath Eli about strengthening North Side schools in Pittsburgh.
Lee explained "the need is out there" to improve education, while Cheeks says, "children graduate without knowing how to read."
The Jehoshabeath Eli foundation is helping kids rebuild communities, the goal is to strengthen the community from within.
Cheeks says she was motivated to help others because of how hard her mother worked and "sacrificed" for her. Lee was motivated by a teacher who introduced her to a "love of books."
This love of books has led Terri to focus on helping children read at an early level, and to give back to her community.
