Teen Overcomes Cerebral Palsy To Perform In Recital

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A disability isn't stopping one girl from reaching her dreams.

The girl, 14-year-old Halie Smith has cerebral palsy.

After 10 months of training, she hit the stage with her classmates in a recital for Cynthia's School of Dance.

She was even featured as a solo dancer.

Smith says she's proud of the progress she's made both socially and physically.

"It's helped, like I'm not scared of like being on the stage or anything … it's helped my confidence," she said.

"She's just a phenomenal person, she's very vibrant and she was so excited to perform today, I'm so happy for her – I have chills, these are real chills," said her dance teacher Kristin Mazzulli.

Smith says she used her walker to balance while she learned her routines.
