Woman Injured In Butler County Shooting

BUTLER (KDKA) – A woman from Butler is lucky to be alive after a home invasion.

"It makes you very nervous and scared," says on neighbor.

Barking dogs woke up the neighborhood early last Sunday morning - around 4 a.m.

"She was in bed sleeping at the time," according to next door neighbor, Daneen King.

Police are trying to find out who walked into Shari Donnel's bedroom firing a single shotgun blast -hitting her abdomen and lower chest.

"Her sister-in-law was over there cleaning yesterday - and she said there was just blood everywhere in the house"

Somehow, the 49-year-old Donnel managed to call 911.

"Why would anybody want to do that to anybody?" King asked.

Donnel worked at the bakery of the Giant Eagle store at the Clearview Mall. She may have had a boyfriend -- a man was seen at the home on Miller Avenue at times.

Donnel underwent major surgery on Sunday and Monday at Allegheny General Hospital.

"Made it through surgery and everything - but she's going to have a long road ahead of her," King said.

Butler City Police aren't saying much - if anything - about the case, except that they are doing a lot of interviewing.
