UNITY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – The former bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg passed away Tuesday night.

According to diocese officials, Bishop Anthony Bosco died at his home in Unity Township at age 85. The cause of his death is unknown, but officials said it was unexpected.

Bosco served as the third bishop of the diocese from 1987-2004.

He spent his retirement in Westmoreland County and celebrated Mass as recently as last Saturday.

According to the diocese’s website, Bosco was raised on Pittsburgh’s North Side and graduated from North Catholic High School.

At this point, funeral arrangements have not been made.
