Three Rivers Regatta Starts Off With A Bang

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The crowd cheered for Wednesday night's fireworks show at the EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta.

The big fireworks show is Thursday, Independence Day, but Wednesday's show was launched from the roof of the Wyndham Grand Hotel across from Point State Park.

They used shells with cool sparks rather than warm ones, so that it would be safe to launch the show from the roof of the building.

One of the most impressive parts was a display that looked like a waterfall off the front of the hotel.

In addition to the fireworks, there were powerboat races, an extreme pogo stick show and the band Jefferson Starship performed at the main stage.

Before the powerboat races Wednesday evening, safety boats patrolled the river to collect logs and debris washed into the water from all the recent rain.

There will be more races Thursday, and the day will be capped off with a huge fireworks display that will include an American flag in the sky made up of fireworks.
