Man Accused In Gateway Center Hostage Situation Faces New Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- The man charged with holding a business owner hostage inside Three Gateway Center in Downtown Pittsburgh is facing new charges after the alleged assault of another inmate at the Allegheny County Jail.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports 23-year-old Klein Thaxton is accused of beating the inmate and dragging him into a cell to attack him in; however, he was stopped by other inmates.

Thaxton was arrested last September after police say he held a financial services firm owner hostage for six hours in the downtown building.

Thaxton's attorney says he was off his medication that day.

The attorney declined comment on the new charges.
