More Hot & Humid Weather Expected Today

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Everyone is trying to keep cool from the heat and humidity today.

According to KDKA-TV's Jon Burnett, Tuesday's high will be 91 degrees. However, the Heat Index will be in the mid-to-upper 90s.

The sprinklers kicked on before the sun came up over the city, watering the grass before the heat rained down. Some took to the river and runners hit the trails, but even the morning provided little relief.

"It's pretty hot. The humidity is pretty bad. It's like running through soup," Ken Williams said.

"It's tough out here. But we're from the south so we're sort of used to it," Tony Verano said.

KDKA-TV's Heather Abraham carted around through Clover Hill, which is a nine-hole golf course, and caught up with a couple of guys who took advantage of the morning by squeezing in a round before temperatures soared.

"It's going to be awfully warm. It's getting awfully muggy already," Tom Clixbull said.

"We're in pretty good shape for old men. So, hopefully we survive," Tom Bogdewic said.

At Consumers Produce, temperatures inside ranged from the 30s to the 50s. After an eight-hour shift in long sleeves, the outdoors is no place the employees want to be.

"You go to step outside and the heat just hits you and takes your breath away," Thomas Jacobs said. "You want to stay here."

Duquesne Light is keeping an eye on transformers in the area hoping they can handle the added stress to the system from people running air conditioners.

There are also several cooling centers open around the area. For a complete list, click here.
