Swimming Programs Resume At YMCA After Near-Drowning

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Swimming programs have resumed at 12 YMCA day camps in the Pittsburgh area.

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh announced the news Tuesday.

The group voluntarily suspended day camp swim activities on July 9 following the near drowning of a 6-year-old child at the Carson Middle School Day Camp. YMCA spokeswoman Beth Almes says the Carson Middle School Camp will be closed for the rest of the summer because of the incident.

The incident prompted the YMCA to review its safety and supervision practices at all of its summer day camps and put new safety rules in place.
