Grilli Featured On New Sports Illustrated Cover
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A Pittsburgh Pirate is being featured on one of two Sports Illustrated covers for their MLB second half preview edition.
Closer Jason Grilli is one of two players to be featured on the cover and with good reason.
The Pirates are currently 56-37 and only trail the St. Louis Cardinals by one game in the National League Central standings. They currently lead the Wild Card race as well.
So far this season, Grilli has 29 saves in 30 opportunities with a 1.99 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP. In 40 2-3 innings pitched, Grilli has allowed just nine earned runs. He has also struck out 63, while walking nine.
San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey is the other player to be featured on the second half preview cover.
The Pirates will be back in action Friday night on the road in Cincinnati.
