PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The Pirates sent five All-Stars to the 2013 game at Citi Field in New York.

The Fan’s Vinnie Richichi covered the game, and caught up with Andrew McCutchen after his third All-Star Game.

“It’s definitely always great just to have that opportunity to be able to celebrate and be able to experience that with them,” McCutchen said of his four teammates.

McCutchen added that he hoped he is able to have the same experience for years to come.

Pedro Alvarez appeared in his first All-Star Game, and it happened in his hometown of New York.

“A lot of fun,” Alvarez told Richichi. “Obviously, very fortunate to be a part of this experience and for it to be in my hometown makes it all the more special.”

Mark Melancon was named to the National League squad after Jeff Locke’s back issues prevented him from participating. Melancon told Richichi that he appreciated how difficult it is for a setup man to make the game.

“I feel honored to be here because it is a tough feat to get here in a role that I’m in,” Melancon said.
