Motive In Seneca Valley Teacher's Death May Have Been Love Triangle
BUTLER (KDKA) -- There's new information in the murder of a local teacher, three years ago.
Steven Russo, a popular math teacher at Seneca Valley High School, was found shot to death at a home in Lancaster Township, north of Zelienople, in November of 2010.
Ever since, Russo's family has been waiting for an arrest in the case.
On Wednesday afternoon, they were hoping to get some answers during a meeting with state police and the district attorney.
"Obviously, we'd like to have a lot of answers to our questions; and hopefully today, we can get some of that and try to move forward, but Steve will never be forgotten," said Jayme Russo, the victim's brother.
Recently unsealed court documents reveal that state police believe Richard Laszczynski was responsible for Russo's death. But state police say the investigation is not over.
"The case never was cleared," said Trooper Dan Kesten, of the Pennsylvania State Police. "Charges were never filed against Mr. Laszczynski… was a person of interest in the death of Mr. Russo. So, we continue to investigate."
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner confirms that Laszczynski violently took his own life last month, attaching explosives to his head and detonating them.
For the Russo family, it's not the outcome they had hoped for.
"That's probably one of the worst things that I'd want to hear at this point because now I don't know if I will get my answers," said Jayme Russo.
As for a motive, the allegations are that the two men were romantically involved with the same woman.
