Man Steals Urn Containing Ashes Of Ex-Girlfriend's Late Husband

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A Perryopolis man allegedly stole an urn containing the ashes of his ex-girlfriend's late husband to get back at her.

Police say Linda Mattrox reported a missing urn containing her late husband's ashes, after realizing it wasn't in her home.

Mattrox told police her ex-boyfriend James Cronin had also been texting her recently.

Later, it was discovered that the urn containing Mattrox's husband's ashes was in a toolbox in Cronin's yard.

Cronin then admitted to stealing the urn because, according to the police report, "he wanted to hurt his ex-girlfriend so he took the urn."

Cronin was taken to Fayette County booking and is awaiting arraignment.

The urn was also returned to Mattrox.
