Man Accused Of Abusing Ex-Girlfriend's Son In Court

BUTLER (KDKA) -- The hearing for a Butler County man accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend's 7-year-old son was continued this afternoon.

A witness for the prosecution was not available for today's hearing.

Police say 35-year-old Edward Myers of Saxonburg doused the boy with nail polish remover, and then Myers' 15-year-old son set fire to the boy's shirt.

The incident happened in a mobile home on Carol Drive where the boy lived with his mother. She was not at home at the time of the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, the boy told police that Myers threw something from the kitchen stove into his eyes. It felt like sand, he explained. Then, nail polish remover was poured on him. He stated that Myers and one of his sons then did something to him on purpose, which caused his shirt to catch on fire.

The criminal complaint goes on to say that the child told his biological father and mother that he was intentionally burned and that Myers filmed some of what happened on his cell phone.

The boy suffered third-degree burns to his face and chest and had welts on his head after allegedly being shot with a pellet gun.

Myers faces criminal charges including aggravated assault and drug possession.
