Pitt Head Coach Paul Chryst Has High Hopes For Panthers

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - As the Pittsburgh Panthers prepare for fall drills, head coach Paul Chryst joins Vinnie & Cook on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.

Chryst announced the suspension of two key players on Monday morning, and he explains how he has to balance that task with fielding the best team.

"You hope you're walking the line the right way," Chryst says. "Every one of these situations are very different, and you have to base it on the knowledge you have. In the end, nothing is more important than the team. It's the least enjoyable part of the job. I love the part where you're helping guys grow, but you know when some of these things have significant impact. You want to be right."

The Panthers open their season with a bang, as the Orange Bowl champion Florida State Seminoles come to Heinz Field.

"We're going to find out fast who we are," Chryst says. "One of the reasons why football is a great game is you've got to go out and play it. Last year, if you had looked at the schedule and said, 'Pitt's opening up against a 1-AA team,' well that didn't work real well! There are no guarantees."

Chryst also sizes up the battle to be the starting quarterback, and whether he has noticed any differences now that the Panthers are in the ACC.
