Locally Produced Milk Could Have Bacterial Contamination

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – County health officials are warning consumers to discard milk they may have purchased from a local company.

The Allegheny County Health Department says milk produced by "Your Family Farmer" and sold under the label "The Family Cow" could have bacterial contamination.

Health officials say two people have reportedly been sickened by Campylobacter after drinking the raw milk.

They also say this is the second time this has happened. In May, five people were also sickened by Campylobacter after drinking milk from "Your Family Farmer."

"Your Family Farmer" is based in Chambersburg, Franklin County and is sold at Eichner's Family Farm in Wexford, the East End Food Co-Op in Point Breeze and and five drop-off points in other parts of the Allegheny County.

Officials say the dairy production has been stopped until further notice.
