Car Crashes Into Robinson Twp. DSW Shoe Store

ROBINSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Two people were injured after a car crashed into DSW store in Robinson Township Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the accident happened around 3 p.m. at the store at Robinson Town Centre.

A mother and her teenage godson continue to recover after being injured in the crash.

The driver told police she was trying to park her car in a handicap spot, but instead, she hit the gas and ended up inside the store.

The only thing that stopped 67-year-old Laverne Dean from driving deeper into the DSW shoe store was a structural pole inside the building.

"About 30 feet inside the store. The airbags were deployed in the vehicle and people were injured inside the store," Robinson Township Police Chief Dale Vietmeier said.

A 52-year-old woman suffered serious leg injuries and her 13-year-old godson was also injured in the crash. Both were taken to the hospital.

The building is believed to have suffered significant structural damage.

Shopper Erin Rainsberger arrived at the store Monday morning and was unaware of the accident and the damaged caused.

"I hadn't heard what happened," Rainsberger said. "That's scary. I hope everyone's okay."

With Robinson Town Centre attracting such large crowds, Chief Vietmeier said they're lucky more weren't hurt.

"Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. I'm sure there were a lot of shoppers in there. So, we're fortunate that there were only a couple minor injuries. It's just a shame," Vietmeier said.

There is no word from DSW as to when the store will reopen.
