Father Gunned Down Outside Beltzhoover Home

BELTZHOOVER (KDKA) – Police are investigating the shooting death of a Beltzhoover man.

Police say 34-year-old Darren Smith was killed outside his home in the 400-block of Sylvania Avenue.

The father of four was returning from watching a movie when he was shot in the chest just outside his front door.

His wife, Tamara Smith, says she came home before him, and was in bed when she heard gun shots.

"He was coming home to be with his family. We don't know what happened, and who did this and what reason why," she told KDKA's Bob Allen.

She says he was a hard-working man who didn't harm anyone.

"This is a wonderful community. I lived in this community for 12 years with my family. I raised my children here and go to work every day, my husband goes to work every day," Smith said.

Tamara says her husband was excited about sending one of his sons to Clarion University.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office says Smith was pronounced dead at 3:48 a.m. at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

As her family prepares for the funeral, Tamara has this message for the person who shot her husband: "God will make you pay for what you did to my family."

Police are investigating, and no motive or suspect information has been released.
