Pitt's Paul Chryst Counting Down To Season Opener

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pitt Panthers' much anticipated season opener is two weeks away, and head coach Paul Chryst talked about it with Colin Dunlap and Chris Peak on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.

Instead of waiting until the week of the game to name his starting quarterback, Chryst has already chosen Tom Savage.

"Tom has natural leadership qualities you want from your quarterback," Chryst says. "He can best lead just by being the best quarterback he can. He certainly has respect in the locker room. If he were to voice something, I think guys would listen. With the combination of the position and the kind of guy he is, I think he's more than qualified to be a leader."

While many are already looking ahead to the season opener against Florida State, Chryst is still living in the here and now of fall drills.

"Camp is to get ready for the season, so you try to expose the guys to all different things," Chryst explains. "So much of football is about doing your job and controlling what you can control. A lot of the focus can be on us, and that's what this time of year is great for."
