Shaler Neighborhood In Disbelief After Shooting Tragedy

SHALER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An eeriness has set in at the home located at 402 Winterset Drive.

Flowers are piled up in the front yard and neighbors are still trying to comprehend the tragic shooting.

"People are shocked and people really feel sorry for Laurin - 19-years-old, just had her birthday, just started her second year of college - and Jimmy," said Karen Gerard, a neighbor. "It's a tragedy for everybody."

A photo from James Edwards, Jr.'s graduation from Shaler Area High School shows happier times for the family. Now though, Jimmy's sister, Laurin, and his father, James, are dead.

Police say they believe Laurin's father, 52-year-old Jim Edwards, shot and killed her and then turned the gun on himself.

Edwards' wife, Charlene, and their 21-year-old son, James Jr., were also wounded in the shooting.

Charlene and Jimmy are in the hospital, listed in critical condition at the last update.

"It's a shame though, and I sure hope that Char and Jimmy make it," said Gerard.

Jimmy Edwards was headed back to pharmacy school at Duquesne University. Laurin was returning to Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa. She was studying to be a physician's assistant.

The neighborhood is grieving.

"We're just really, really shook up over this," said Linda Behrhorst, another neighbor.
