Steelers And Fans Participate In 5K For Scholarship Fund

NORTH SHORE (KDKA) – Steelers and Steelers fans gathered on the North Shore Saturday to raise money for the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund.

The race started at Heinz Field and circled the North Shore, with hundreds participating.

"It feels good, I didn't expect it, I just came out to try to do my best," said one runner. "That's one thing you can't control, you just go out and try to do your best and wherever that lands you, that's where that lands you."

Money raised from the event will go to benefit the scholarship fund, which provides $12,000 scholarships to graduating North Shore high school students.

"I'm just excited," Steelers safety Ryan Clark said. "Anytime you give back to the community and you know, show them that we are a part of Pittsburgh, that it's not just about football, that it's about everybody here being able to benefit from what we're blessed to be able to do."

KDKA's Jon Burnett was also at the race to help emcee the event.

Organizers say more than 70 students have benefited from the Art Rooney Scholarship fund.
