Danny Knobler: Neal Huntington Was Extremely Aggressive

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- CBSSports.com senior baseball writer Danny Knobler joined Ron Cook and Andrew Fillipponi Labor Day morning on The Fan Morning Show to talk about what he saw while covering this weekend's Pirates vs. Cardinals series at PNC Park.

Knobler told the guys that Neal Huntington stayed persistent after having trouble finding a bat in July, and was generally considered to be the most aggressive general manager in the league during the August waiver trade period.

Knobler added that the Mets became much more willing to sell after the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline passed, which led to the price for Marlon Byrd (and John Buck) going down.

Kobler's still leaning towards the Cardinals' Yadier Molina in the National League MVP race, but after spending this weekend covering the Pirates, he understands Andrew McCutchen's value to the Bucs better than he did before.

This afternoon's Pirates vs. Brewers game can be heard on both 93-7 The Fan and 1020 KDKA, but if game coverage runs past 6 p.m., The Fan will begin Pitt football pregame coverage then. The game can also be heard in its entirety on NewsRadio 1020 KDKA.

The interview can be heard here:

Steve Pederson 9-2
