Steve Pederson: 'It's Going To Be An Unbelievable Day'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Pitt Athletic Director Steve Pederson joined Ron Cook and Andrew Fillipponi Labor Day morning on The Fan Morning Show, with Pitt football's big opener against Florida State just hours away.

Pederson actually didn't expect Paul Chryst to be thrilled by the prospect of opening with such a tough matchup, but found the opposite to be true.

Pederson likes that Chryst is trying to build the program the right way with the right people, noting that this can help the program build consistency.

Pederson offered a rundown of Monday's game day festivities, including the pregame events going on around the stadium and the pregame festivities at Heinz Field. He said that you'll want to be in your seat at least 25 minutes before the game if you want to catch everything. He also talked about Pitt's new bag policies.

Pederson explained the rationale for retiring Larry Fitzgerald's number (which will happen at halftime), mentioning Fitz's undying love for Pitt.

Tonight's game can be heard on 93-7 The Fan. Coverage is scheduled to begin after The Fan's broadcast of this afternoon's Pirates game, but if that game runs past 6 p.m., Pitt coverage will begin at 6 p.m. Either way, the Pirates game can be heard in its entirety on 1020 KDKA.

The interview can be heard here:

Steve Pederson 9-2
