Several Cats Rescued, But 4 Other Animals Found Dead In Abandoned Home
GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Authorities have issued a warrant for a Westmoreland County woman after several animals, both dead and alive, were found in the abandoned home she used to live in.
The home is located in the 900-block of Beacon Valley Road in Greensburg.
According to the Humane Society, the home was about to be foreclosed on, but the woman who lived there – identified as Amanda Rubus – had already moved out.
When a humane officer went to the home today to serve a search warrant, authorities say the official found seven cats severely dehydrated but alive and four other animals that were dead.
Those animals include one cat, a pot-bellied pig, an iguana and a bearded dragon.
"We got a warrant to go in. They've had no food, no water. They're all severely dehydrated and thin. This is the first pot-bellied pig I've ever come across. I've seen the smaller... the reptiles, I've seen before, but this was the first pot-bellied pig we've found," said Officer Jan Dillon, a Westmoreland County Humane Officer.
Humane officers removed all but one of the living cats from the home. They are now in the care of the Humane Society in Greensburg.
Officials say they are trying to capture the other cat in order to get it out of the home and get it treatment.
Once the cats are healthy, they will be put up for adoption.
Authorities say Rubus has not responded to multiple attempts to contact her, but they do know where she is living now.
She faces several thousands of dollars in fines.
