Fans Welcome Pirates Home With Long Standing Ovation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pirates' fans gave the team an impressive welcome home to PNC Park Thursday night.

There was a standing ovation that lasted about a minute.

"I've been rooting for the Pirates as long as they've been going on," said fan Jim Henry, of Arnold. "I didn't give up on them, a little struggling the last couple of years, but this is just like really great."

Pirates' broadcasters commented on how the crowd just didn't want to stop clapping.

The team started an 11-game homestand with a win over the Chicago Cubs.

"I've been following the Pirates since 1960. I'm happy as heck, and I hope they go all the way," said fan Ed Becktold, of Wilkins Township.

After years of losing seasons, Thursday's game was the first time the Pirates played at PNC Park since guaranteeing themselves a winning season this year.

In fact, it's the first winning season the Pirates have had since they've been playing at PNC Park.
