Fans Ready To Scoop Up Pirates Playoff Tickets

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It has taken two decades of patience by the fans and a season of hard work, but the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates are on the brink of delivering to fans the excitement of post-season baseball.

"We're excited. It's been a great year so far, but there is a lot to be accomplished," said Pirates second baseman Neil Walker.

Doreen Strateneier came to PNC Park Tuesday to get the yellow wristband that gives her a shot at playoff tickets Wednesday morning

"If I show up tomorrow between 9:30 and 10, and they call my number, then I can get in line to buy tickets," said Strateneier, of Bethel Park.

"I love baseball and I've been looking forward to this for a long time," added fan Rochelle Miller, of Irwin.

But with season ticket holders and group leaders' requests already satisfied, will there be anything left?

"There will be some ticket left," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly. "We made sure we held back some tickets for the general public sales."

Those tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the PNC Park box office, online and on the phone.

So, what's your best shot?

"Have somebody online, have somebody on the phone, and have somebody here," said Coonelly. "It's really a random draw."

"It's very humbling to be a part of small group that has been able to bring a lot of joy at a lot of different layers to a lot of people," said Pirates manager Clint Hurdle.
