Cool Springs Golf Center Damaged By Fire

BETHEL PARK (KDKA) - The Cool Springs Golf Center had fallen on hard times, but things got a little bit worse this morning after a fire at one of the buildings.

Flames were shooting from the roof of the maintenance building when firefighters arrived.

This fire just adds to the list of apparent trouble Cool Springs has gone through recently. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported in May that the center had cut back hours after abruptly closing for several weeks.

The property is also listed for a sheriff's sale on Oct. 7.

"They've recently been in process of selling it. It has not been sold yet, I've been told. But I was told they have a written agreement to sell it," Bethel Park VFD Chief Dave Gerber said.

Gerber said one worker was believed to be at the building at the time of the fire. They were able to keep it from spreading into the pro-shop, which is attached to the maintenance garage. A neighbor, who saw the fire, said the center has slowly deteriorated over the years.

"They used to keep it open until like 11 o'clock at night, but this year as it got dark, they didn't use any of their lights anymore. So, it's been kind of going downhill," Jim Gallagher said.

The Allegheny County fire marshal is now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
