Bicyclist Hit And Killed Along Route 119

BULLSKIN TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- A bicyclist was hit and killed by a car in Bullskin Township, Fayette County late Thursday night.

Police say 58-year-old John Henry Pletcher was riding his bicycle down Route 119 North, near Buttermore Boulevard in Connellsville, when the accident happened.

Pletcher's last known address was in a Fayette County mobile home park. It was a place he was forced to leave when his life became troubled.

State police say Pletcher fell off his bike because of a "physical condition." They won't elaborate on what that means exactly. But when Pletcher tried to get back up, he was struck by an SUV.

People who knew Pletcher back at the mobile home park were not surprised that he was riding a bike late at night.

"I am very saddened by it. John was a nice guy. He was loner," said Barb Jordan, the manager of the mobile home park. "Because of the circumstances of his life, I knew that he had been homeless for a while. I had heard recently that that was his latest mode of transportation."

The driver of the car that hit the bicycle did stop. So far, there are no charges against the driver.

The coroner was called to the scene and Pletcher was pronounced dead.

State Police in Uniontown are investigating the crash.
