Reward Offered After Spray-Painted Cat Dies

HERMITAGE (KDKA) - Officials in Mercer County are offering an $800 reward to find the person who spray-painted a cat.

A family in Hermitage said they had been feeding the stray cat for months and were shocked when it showed up at the door, spray-painted bright orange.

The cat got sick and later died.

"We think the fumes got into it because there was some paint on its face and everything. We think it ingested some of the chemicals from the paint," Tom Swartz from the Mercer County Humane Society said.

"It's just awful that someone could even think about doing that to a poor cat," Mara Redmond said.

Police and humane officers are investigating the case.

They said they are taking the crime very seriously and anyone convicted could face up to five years in prison.
