Man Jailed After Allegedly Raping, Trying To Strangle Woman

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Edward Covington, 56, is jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail on charges that include attempted homicide, aggravated assault and unlawful restraint.

Police say he and a female acquaintance got into a verbal fight that escalated in his East Liberty apartment early Tuesday.

Covington allegedly raped the woman, after shoving a dish towel in her mouth.

She told police she was raped twice after the two had been drinking and getting high.

Police also say he also attempted to strangle her with a phone chord, as well as threatening to kill her family.

It all started when he accused her of going to the Pirates game on Monday with another man, an accusation she denied.
