900-Pound Monument Vandalized, Nearly 100-Arrested During IUP Homecoming

INDIANA, Pa. (KDKA) - Indiana Borough Police say a valuable monument was vandalized, and nearly 100-people arrested during a wild IUP Homecoming.

Police say the monument was vandalized around 3:20 a.m. Saturday at Shoemaker Monuments on Philadelphia Street.

Surveillance video shows three young man milling around the shop for about a minute. One of the men tries unsuccessfully to pull over a 280-pound stone.

He is then seen rocking a 900-pound monument until it eventually topples over, nearly falling on top of him.

The now broken hand sculpted piece of granite still site outside of the store. It was worth more than $4,000.

"When we came here Monday morning, we were displeased to see this particular monument," Manager Dana Gould told KDKA's Trina Orlando.

Gould says this is the third time a monument at the shop has been vandalized. It could cause the store to move the monuments inside.

New high definition surveillance cameras were installed after the last act of vandalism. Store employees along with police are hoping clear pictures of the suspect will lead to an arrest.

Indiana Borough Police Sergeant William Vojtek says, "it was an expensive joke, it's something we want to prosecute, and we need the help of the community."

The vandalism came during a wild IUP homecoming weekend where nearly 100-people were taken into custody.
