Police Investigating Rash Of Burglaries In Peters Twp.

PETERS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Until now, the Stratford Woods section of Peters Township in Washington County seemed immune to trouble.

"We don't have a lot of crime period," said Chief Harry Fruecht, of Peters Township Police.

But all that has changed, and the neighborhood is on edge.

"We are all talking about; maybe we should get security systems. I mean, we never even thought that that was really an issue," said Laura St. Clair, Peters Township resident. "We've been parking our car in the garage. It's pretty crazy."

It follows three burglaries in the past week and an attempted burglary that led to a scuffle with a knife.

"The individual had a knife and he got a slice across his arm, nothing serious, but still he got injured," said Chief Fruecht.

Police are looking for a white male between five-feet-10-inches and six-feet-one-inches tall with short brown hair and brown eyes. He was seen driving an older model, drab blue Dodge Neon.

Investigators say he has been kicking in front doors and stealing cash, but ignoring other valuables.

It's completely changed the atmosphere in the otherwise quiet and safe community.

"If we see any cars that are pretty suspicious because we all wave, we all know each other, so that's actually been a big thing is if we see cars or anything like that," said St. Clair.
