Police Probe Apparent Murder-Suicide In North Versailles

NORTH VERSAILLES (KDKA) -- Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after the bodies of a husband and wife were found Tuesday morning in their home in North Versailles.

Police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office were called to the home in the 100-block of Thomas Avenue around 9 a.m.

According to Allegheny County homicide detectives, police officers made the discovery after a call came in around 8:45 a.m. from an employer asking to check on the welfare of a man who lives in the home.

The bodies were found inside.

Mark and Erin Hoey recently fixed up the home where they've lived for 10 years with a new roof and brown siding. Neighbors say they were nice people and never saw one without the other. They were in their 40s.

"I noticed that the car hadn't moved in a couple of day," said Jacky Orrick, a neighbor.

No cause of death has been released.

"We're investigating a murder-suicide," said Chief Vincent DiCenzo, Jr., of North Versailles Police. "The person had not been to work, and if we could go check and see because it wasn't normal."

Police say they have no history of calls to the house.

Mark worked in a printing shop, and Erin had a job with a florist on the South Side.

"Lately, they haven't been around much with the neighbors," said Jacky. "They've been kind of keeping to themselves a little bit, which I thought was a little bit odd, but you don't think anything like this."

The couple had a daughter, Courtney, who is in her 20s and visited often.

"Their daughter, I feel so sad for her," said Jacky.

No one can think of what could have caused the snap.

"If you look at the house, gone; it's empty," said Forest Orrick, a neighbor. "The whole neighborhood's in shock."

North Versailles and Allegheny County police continue to investigate.
