Jayson Megna On 1st NHL Goal: 'It's Tough To Put Into Words'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Rookie Jayson Megna was a huge part of the Pens' 3-1 win over Carolina last night. His two points, including his first NHL goal, helped the Pens get two points and break a three-game losing streak. Megna joined The Fan Morning Show Tuesday morning to celebrate.
"It's tough to put into words," Megna said. "It was a great night and my whole family was in the stands and I helped the team get two points."
Megna may not have thought his first NHL goal would come from a deflection off his shin pad on a shot by Sidney Crosby, but he will take it.
"He makes everyone around him better," Megna said about playing with Crosby. "I didn't even need a stick to score my first NHL goal."
He admits that his first couple of times being on the ice with Sid he had the "wow factor," but he said he learned he has to let that go because he is his teammate and they are working for the same goal.
Megna talked about the pumpkin shirt he has had to wear after losing a shootout in practice. As a result, Megna had to go buy a Halloween shirt and this is the only one he could find. He said it's a women's XL because he could not find one in his size. He said he has no problem wearing it if the team wants him to and it helps them win.
Last night's performance was good enough for him to get nicknamed "Megnificent" from Root Sports analyst Bob Errey.
Megna said there are a few nicknames out there right now, including "Megnatron" and "Liquid Hot Magena."
The performance of last night hasn't gotten to the kid's head though.
"As great as yesterday was, it's back to being on the bubble," Megna said. "Everyday could be my last day here."
He hopes that he has opened some eyes and that last night might buy him a little extra time.
