PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette joined The Fan Morning Show the morning after the disaster in New England. The Steelers lost 55-31 to the Patriots to drop them to 2-6, which ended any playoff hopes.

The 55 points was the most ever given up by a Steelers team.

Ed said that there is nothing that would show him that this team is going to be any better the rest of the way. They could go 2-6 again in the last eight games.

“This could be the worst season we have seen since the NFL merger,” Bouchette said. “They showed lately there is not a team out there that could not beat them.”

Ed puts the blame on yesterday’s loss on the defense. He said this defense is just terrible. He says the safeties looked terrible and they looked slow. Yesterday showed they need more players on that defense.

Ed said he would not go as far as to say the defense quit on the team yesterday but they did look awful. They looked old.

Troy Polamalu fans should pay close attention to him over these next few games because this will be his last year here.

Bouchette said he has been asked about what the future of Defensive Coordinator Dick LeBeau is and he doesn’t know. “He has a pretty good resume,” Bouchette said. “Even Dick LeBeau can’t fix this.”
