Monessen Woman To Go To Trial After Allegedly Locking Mom, Son In Basement

MONESSEN (KDKA) – A Monessen woman accused of locking her elderly mother and teenage son in the basement after allegedly coming home drunk will go to trial.

When police rolled up to the house on Alexander Road in Monessen they were shocked to discover an elderly woman and a teenager locked in the basement.

When they got inside, they were shocked to find those two weren't the only ones home.

Sherry Gillock walked into district court in Monessen Friday a prisoner, placed under arrest after police say the 51-year-old imprisoned her 75-year-old mother and 15-year-old son in the basement of her home.

On Oct. 27, police showed up at the home after Sherry's daughter called saying she couldn't get inside, and her grandmother, Margaret Gillock, and brother had been locked in the cellar for at least three hours.

The boy managed to get out of a cellar window with the help of her sister.

When cops finally got inside, they said they found Sherry passed out on the living room couch. Once awake, police say Sherry was drunk and slurring her speech.

They freed Margaret told police her daughter came home very drunk and forced she and the boy downstairs because she "didn't want to deal with them."

Margaret suffered a cut hand trying to break out of the basement; other than that, both her and her grandson were okay.

Sherry was arrested and charged with unlawful restraint and endangering the welfare of a child.

Gillock waived her hearing.

She remains in the Westmoreland County Jail on $10,000 bond.
